Bigastro – Recreation Area La Pedrera – Embalse de La Pedrera – Casa de los Frailes – submerged Road – Collado – Loma Larga – Tremendo Road – Canal del Campo de Cartagena – San Miguel de Salinas.
4 hours 45 minutes
It begins in the town of Bigastro and journeys around the sites surrounding the reservoir of La Pedrera and reaches San Miguel de Salinas.
The main attractions of the route are, first, the magnificent views of the largest lake in the province and secondly, the spectacular scenery that is visible from the top of the Loma Larga.
This route leaves the church square of Bigastro, following the characteristic white and yellow marks of the tracks of the Pequeño Recoorido. Continue towards the reservoir, by a paved road until you reach a cliff and from there take a new road up to the reservoir dam.
Here we can see a wonderful view. From the dam we must continue to the left, along the road along that borders the reservoir.
After passing the towers of the dam syphons, locate a path to the right that leads down to the water, by which we reach the road submerged under the waters of the reservoir, after passing a house ruin. Upon reaching this road, turn left and pass by a dirt track until we meet a footpath on the left, where we begin the ascent to the Loma Larga. On the climb be careful of the bee hives.
In the Loma Larga, we can enjoy a beautiful landscape, which covers a large part of the lower Segura, including: all the Pedrera reservoir; the towns of Orihuela, Bigastro, Torremendo, San Miguel de Salinas, Jacarilla, Benejúzar, Algorfa, Los Montesinos; the Natural Park of Salinas de La Mata and Torrevieja and the sea.
Descend the Loma Larga looking for a way to the right that leads to the Torremendo road. From this road we head to the bridge over the canal del Segura.
From this point we will continue along the left bank of the canal to get to San Miguel de Salinas.
